It's clear that this combination is only for the most indulgent sweet tooths, but it’s also undeniable that this pairing of flavors is a guaranteed success.

Those who move away from their homeland—whether for love, work, or one of the countless twists life can take—and settle in a different part of the world often miss the same things: their people, the landscapes they grew up in, and the food. Something like this happened to Daiana and Juan, two Argentinians living in Mallorca, who felt an irresistible longing for the taste of the ice creams they enjoyed as children in their home country.
Born out of that nostalgia, Che Gelats! was created and now has a location on Avinguda de l’Argentina and another on Avinguda Joan Miró, right by Cala Major beach, where their workshop is located. We chose the one in the center to test their product, which they make artisanal.
Pistachio, mixed berries, strawberries, mascarpone, and Mallorca almonds are some of the flavors displayed in their showcases, but it's not just about ice cream: here, you can also enjoy delicious alfajores made with cornstarch or coconut, indulge in a scrumptious brownie, sip on a milkshake, or even devour churros with chocolate—a treat that’s only for those who can remain unfazed by forty-degree temperatures.
Those are certainly not us, as we arrived at the ice cream shop nearly melted on a very hot August afternoon, aiming to cool down with a good ice cream while also expanding our list of must-visit ice cream shops on the island.
The mouthwatering appearance of the ice creams makes choosing a challenge, but the heat leads us, initially, to opt for an exotic combination of mango and passion fruit, the perfect match between two tropical fruits. From the first lick, we taste the fresh fruit aromas and feel the natural chunks of mango and passion fruit travel down our throats. It’s a winning choice to combat the high temperatures!
We continue the tasting with what we believe is a must-try when visiting an Argentine ice cream shop: dulce de leche ice cream. And since we can combine flavors, we choose not one, but two. We order the first one served in a cup and, to make the experience even more immersive, we pair it with some cornstarch alfajores. It’s clear that this combination is only for those with the sweetest tooth, but it’s undeniable that this pairing of flavors is a guaranteed success.
The ice cream is delicious and, contrary to what we might expect, it's not at all cloying, just like the alfajor with its shredded coconut on top. Each bite is a sweet explosion, but contained and balanced on our palate.
For our second dulce de leche option—since we're here, we indulge in pleasure—we pair it with milk and banana, following the recommendation of the staff. The flavors complement each other perfectly, and we savor every bite as if it were our last, seated on a bench under the shade of the trees on Passeig Mallorca, which offers a bit of relief from the heat and becomes our impromptu sanctuary of indulgence. We're so glad we came to Che Gelats!
