The hamburger, when in good hands, is a delicious meal. This is Brox Kitchen & Drinks.

Strolling along Sant Miquel Street on a Saturday at noon is to merge with the comings and goings of the locals, tourists, families who feed on the commercial activity that this pedestrian street promises. We have an appointment pending with the bookstore Come In, where we want to buy some books in English from its endless catalog. As we walk out the door, the clock almost strikes two and we are attacked by a voracious hunger, an appetite that can only be appeased with a tasty bite of meat. We feel like turning around the meaning of a dish that has always been surrounded by bad press: the hamburger. A culinary elaboration that fast food chains have seriously damaged in the past, although not definitively. And thank goodness. That's why we entered the Brox Kitchen & Drinks, because its reputation since it was established in 2018 has seduced our nose.
A single glance inside Brox is enough for us to realize that this is much more than a burger joint. An exposed brick wall tells us that we are in an industrial-style premises in which there is a marked London spirit. The chesterfield sofas scattered throughout the establishment give it that English character, reinforced by columns and a black ceiling that give the place a sober feel. Before sitting down, we take a look at the bar, also dark, where spotlights illuminate a multitude of drinks. Hence the word drinks, which explains the long list of cocktails that appears on the menu as another of their specialties. But today we haven't come here for that. Today we have come to sink our teeth into one of their burgers.
We sat down in a soft armchair and a bit away from the crowd. Not because we want to isolate ourselves from the crowds, but because we want to contemplate the place at its peak. The diners are very diverse: families, couples, groups of friends. The hamburger culture is an attraction for all types of customers, it has the ability to seat people of all kinds in the same space. The place manages to catch moments of laughter and festivities while the waiters, trays in hand, come and go. We focus on the menu. The burgers are classified according to affinities: for the more daring, for cheese lovers, some more classic, others a little different and three vegan options. At the Brox they understand the multiplicity of tastes, which is good news.
We decided on the classic side of a creation whose ingredients attract us as if we were victims of a spell: the Smoking Jack, which won second prize in The Battle of the Burger Mallorca 2019. The reasons are as follows: scamorza cheese, grilled onion, roasted peppers, crispy bacon and Jack Daniel's sauce. We want to vindicate the burger to put it in the place it deserves when it is prepared with care: on the podium of dishes that exude gastronomic quality. The waitress asks us what to accompany the delicacy. Our answer is homemade sweet potatoes with truffle mayonnaise and Parmesan cheese. If we booked a table at Brox, it was to treat ourselves.
The waiting time has been enlivened by gulps of beer; we now regret not having tried some margaritas that dance on the trays looking spectacular. Our Smoking Jack looks most succulent. We take a first bite and the sweetness of the brioche bun is a great match for the texture of the meat. We like it done, juicy, matured. Smoked in a Josper oven that in the Brox allows such prodigies. This is how they serve it to us. A dream on which rest some roasted peppers that give it an aroma of barbecue fire. And then there is the combination of sweet potatoes, parmesan and truffle, a garnish that melts with the touch of the fork. A crazy combination, enough to know that we are experiencing of one of the best hamburger restaurants in Palma. Without exaggerating. Because the hamburger, when it is in good hands, is a delicious meal. This is Brox Kitchen & Drinks.
